On Friday (6 February 2026), we were honoured to have students from TWIMS (Toyota Wessels Institute for Manufacturing Studies) and GIBS (Gordon Institute of Business Science). They visited factories in the Hammarsdale area, including our site, as part of their Environment of Business Module.

The module helps students understand the worker and community context, the history and development of the area, and the real operational challenges businesses face on the ground. Their task is to observe the operating environment, consider the relationships between different social actors, and assess what that environment means for business performance — both the opportunities and the constraints.

At Use It Waste Beneficiation (RF) NPC, the conversation focused on a key question: how do organisations build resilience and adaptability as the external environment changes rapidly?

The visit concluded with a panel discussion hosted at ND Engineering, featuring Belinda Putterill (Use It Waste Beneficiation Centre), Peter Gillmore (eThekwini EDU), and John White (Hammarsdale Cato Ridge Development Agency – HCRDA). It was a valuable opportunity for students to engage directly with local leaders and deepen their understanding of Hammarsdale’s business and socio-economic landscape.
